Reading Privacy Policies

Keep this list of questions in mind as you read a privacy policy:

1. Will your information be shared with or sold to third parties?

2. With whom will your information be shared and for what purposes?

3. Can you opt-out of sharing your information?

4. Will your information be used for purposes other than that for which it was collected?

5. How does the company protect your information from loss, unauthorized access, disclosure, or alteration?

6. Are you able to see and correct or delete inaccurate information the company has collected about you?

7. Is there contact information listed? Does the policy explain how to get more information, submit claims or disputes?
